Glen Dharmai has nothing against the game of basketball.
In fact, the Father Michael McGivney Catholic Academy physical education teacher enjoys the game and acknowledged it is a big part of his school’s athletic program.
But at the same time, he hopes to inform students other sports do exist.
Just as important, these other activities can be just as exciting.
One way Dharmai and other physical education teachers intend to do this is by introducing the game of floorball. The McGivney physical education staff will do so Wednesday by conducting a one-day clinic for each of their Grade 9 classes.
The clinic, which will be run in conjunction with Floorball Ontario, is part of an Ontario Federation of School Athletic Associations initiative under their Try Day Program. Under the program, OFSAA has given Father Michael McGivney an $800 grant to purchase new equipment for the program.
“Floorball is a sport that is hugely popular in Europe and is now making its way to North America,” Dharmai cited. “It’s similar to ball hockey, but different in terms of rules and equipment.”
Coming soon BCFLOORBALL.com will profile a list of Schools that play Floorball throughout BC.
