U19 WORLD FLOORBALL CHAMPIONSHIP Call For Players
FLOORBALL CANADA is happy to announce Canada’s participation in the U19 World Floorball Championship to take place in Turku and Raisio, Finland, May 2nd-12th, 2009. All players interested are encouraged to try out regardless of how long you’ve played or how much competitive experience you have.
Floorball is currently played in 48 countries world wide with over 3 million players. The International Floorball Federation has been recognized by the International Olympic Committee and has recently applied for inclusion in the Olympic Games, with the potential of participating in the 2020 Summer Olympics. Canada will be playing in the U19 WFC B Division against some of the following countries: Poland, Germany, Estonia, Austria, Spain, Netherlands, Italy or Japan.
Canadian Men’s Under 19 Team Information
All players must:
Possess a valid Canadian Passport, to expire on or after November 11, 2009.
Have been born between December 31st, 1993 and January 1st, 1990.
Be able to cover the cost of travel to and from Helsinki, Finland, as well as room and board. (approx. $2,000)
Be available to participate in Helsinki from May 2nd to May 12th, 2009.
Submit their application with $30 tryout fee NO LATER THAN Friday, November 1st, 2008.
Be a registered member of their Provincial Federation as well as a Floorball Canada (you can register with BC Floorball)
Upon making the team, submit a $200 deposit.
Team Selection:
There are 20 roster positions for the team, including 2 goaltender positions. Players will be selected based on skill, experience, sportsmanship and commitment.
Player assessment will be held in the Fall 2008 and may be conducted during local class, league, drop in as well as Provincial tryouts and Provincial tournament. The National Team Selection Committee will contact players selected by December 31st, 2008.
Floorball Canada Responsibilities:
Coordinate accommodations, team meals, transportation to and from playing venues and all practices and exhibition matches while in Finland.
Provide Doping Control Training to all players prior to the World Floorball Championships.
