Montreal Open 2007 report from Swiss player Simon Baumgartner
Friday, November 16th, 2007Returning from a long weekend trip to Montreal to compete at the Montreal Floorball Open 2007, my teammates and I feel our body aching, but our mind full of energy and enthusiasm.
Because of our early arrival in Montreal, the Vancouverites spent the whole Friday visiting the city and adapting to the different climate. After getting to know our teammates from Toronto and some team meetings for discussing our play strategies, we all were ready to go into the first game on Saturday morning.
Caused by the small sized field played on our first day, all the games were very intense and physical, therefore we couldn’t use our speed advantage as we initially had planned. And yet we won two of three games and ended up as 2nd in practising our strategies, playing clever and being disciplined.
After these games, we spent the evening Downtown and discovered Montreal’s nightlife. On Sunday, we could despite of having spent a short night and being hung over get up early and win the quarterfinal at 8.30 in the morning. Then we moved to the second venue and played the rest of our games on a normal-sized 120 by 60 feet field. Of course, we could take advantage of our running skills and won the next game. Unfortunately, our energy ran out and we broke down during the final. Finally, we were rewarded with the silver medals and attended the tournament banquette at a restaurant-bar in Old Montreal.
We all spent a great weekend in Eastern Canada playing floorball combined with sightseeing and nightlife in Montreal. It was fantastic to get to know wicked Floorball players from countries all over the world auch as Canada, Sweden, Finland, Poland and Switzerland and to learn more about the Canadian Floorball movement. I, personally, enjoyed this trip and would love to repeat it next year.
