BC Floorball Challenge Podcast .. coming soon!!

    Thursday, May 31st, 2007

Img_8492Dave Olson over at HockeyNW announced today that he will be doing a BC Floorball Challenge Podcast!! Dave attended the tournament and was seen chatting to players and spectators about the day’s events.

Back in April we joined Dave’s excellent live videocasts during the Canucks play-off run. We were Interval guests and had great fun talking about floorball, showing off moves to a world wide audience.

We’ve no idea what will be in the Podcast but know one thing for sure - Dave’s wealth of experience in capturing the moment on tape (disk?) means we will be in for a real treat!

Awards at the 1st Annual BCFF Floorball Challenge

    Tuesday, May 29th, 2007

Img_8714_2As already mentioned the Czech Republic team won the Gold Medal in last
weekend’s tournament. In addition the following players were honoured
at the closing Awards Ceremony Saturday before celebrations continued
into the evening at the post tournament party.

TOP FORWARD & TOP SCORER - Adrian Zimmerman. Adrian lit up the court in every game he played. In four round-robin games he amassed 27 points before taking part in the Gold Medal Game. Many of his goals were simply breathtaking striking fear into the goalies the moment he took a backswing!

    Img_8609
TOP DEFENSE - Sarah Mitchell. Sarah led the defense for the Finland team, who were easily the hardest team to score against. Well played Sarah!Img_8636

TOP GOALIE - David Senn. Also for Team Finland, David has an awesome 63.5% Save Average and conceded a meagre 4.75 goals per game. Awesome stuff David, as a fellow goalie I learn tons watching you.

TEAM SPIRIT - Team Finland. Led my Greg Beaudin, Finland made
sure every game was super competitive and demonstrated that they were
truly inspired by Team Spirit! Congratulations to Greg and his team
mates, Sarah Mitchell, David Senn, Juha Mikkola, Martin Palm, Alex
    Lemmon and Carla Clapton

Img_8433SPORTSMANSHIP - Greg Rozitis. Greg led his unfancied Czech Republic team to the Gold Medal in an exhausting and exciting Gold Medal Game. He also refereed in the Mulgrave Juniors games and was instrumental in pulling the whole day together.

Last and by no means least ….

    Gygax
TOURNAMENT MVP - Adrian Gygax. Part of the Gold Medal winning Czech Republick team, Adrian contributed 22 points to the cause in the Round Robin alone.  He inspired  the less experienced members of his team to continually step up and give that little bit more. Well played Adrian, WELL PLAYED!

Congratulations to all of the above and it has to be said, to all players who took part. Together we put on a fantastic tournament creating memories that will live long in BC Floorball History.

Today’s Province Newspaper features BC Floorball

    Friday, May 25th, 2007

Jim Jamieson, sport reporter with The Province has a feature on floorball in today’s Paper. Page A54 as it happens, together with a great shot of Vancouver WaveRiders Shea Esselmont and Greg Beaudin. The article covers all the bases and is a great introduction to the sport. Our tournament gets a good mention and there’s a link back to the website which is perfect. The article is up on the The Province website but doesn’t want to load so I will try and add a link a little later.

The hours are counting down to tomorrow’s Tournament. There’s still time to register. You can register online and pay on arrival tomorrow morning. We have updated the online registration to allow for this.

Mulgrave Students excited about Tournament Day

    Wednesday, May 23rd, 2007

2Tournament venue Mulgrave School, sprang to life in September 1993 with a vision to create a new independent, non-denominational school on the North Shore. In April this year, the BCFF Directors Greg Beaudin and Blair Zimmerman had the pleasure of introducing Floorball to the students. 3

As part of Tournament day we are thrilled to report that a large number of students at Mulgrave in grades 4, 5 and 6  have signed up to particpate in two special games. The first game at 11:20 will be made up of students in grades 5 and 6 and the second game at 12:40 will feature grades 4 and  5.

    1
It’s very exciting to see the kids are so enthused about playing.  We even got a phone call from the shool’s principal asking about start times because he had so many kids anxiously asking!

"I know from putting on the floorball demonstrations what a great group of kids there are," says Blair Zimmerman.  "I was impressed with how they picked up on the game and played by the new floorball rules. There are a lot of talented players there."  Greg Beaudin added "I was impressed by how  the whole  class got involved."4

The two games on Saturday will be a great opportunity for Students, parents and other spectators to see the energy and excitement that Floorball can offer. Blair Zimmerman said last night, "On Saturday, I want to see if  Simon can hit the top corners again! "

Saturday’s Floorball Tournament has an international flavour

The 1st Annual BCFF Floorball Challenge this coming Saturday is sure to be an international affair. Already registered are players from Switzerland, Sweden, Canada, UK and now Iceland! Richard Eriksson tells me that as soon as he realised Sweden is a top nation in Floorball he knew he HAD to play. Nothing like a bit of Nordic rivalry!

The big Icelander started by coming to our drop-in sessions and is now looking forward to the tournament. You can read about his impressions of the game and what he thinks about it over on the Urban Vancouver Site. This is Richard’s Introduction to what looks like becoming a great series of Floorball posts.

The tournament itself will be a great way to try out the sport. Every player will get a mininum of 4 games during the day and a chance to see both the Mulgrave kids play - and the Zimmerman Exhibition game. The teams for the tournament itself will be well balanced - with both experienced and novice players in each team. Th491474122_afeff804cb_mis should make for an exciting and enjoyable day! If you haven’t signed up yet you can go to our online registration service or print the registration form and send us a cheque.

If you have any questions then send us an email (see the link on this page) and we’ll be pleased to help.
