North Vancouver Floorball from March 7th

    Thursday, February 22nd, 2007

We are pleased to announce the start of our 2nd Drop-in night for Adult Floorball. From March 7th between 6.45pm and 8.30pm you can play Floorball at the Mickey McDougal RecCentre on the North Shore. The Mickey McDougal RecCentre is one block east of the Harry Jerome RecCentre at 23rd and St.Andrews. This is a stones throw from the Lonsdale exit of Highway 1. (See map of the area)

As usual we will provide all the equipment so please come along with your $7 do cover our costs and help the Federation build for the future. Donations are always welcome of course!

There has been a lot of interest from the North Shore and it’s great to get started and replicate the success of our Roundhouse sessions. There’s lots of room so spectators are welcome, if you’ve not seen the sport before and we hope this will be the start of a very positive relationship between the BC Floorball Federation and the North Vancouver Recreation Commission.

    See you March 7th!

BC Floorball Federation welcomes New Ontario Federation Blog

    Tuesday, February 20th, 2007

They say imitation is the sincerest form of flattery ;-) so it is fantastic to see the new Floorball Ontario blog. The technology behind blogs and its ability to easily change/load up content is very powerful and an easy choice for the BC Floorball Federation and now Ontario.

Ontario’s new blog looks great, first impressions are great, the content is up to date, there are lots of links to other floorball resources and I think it will be a great addition to the online Floorball world. It also enables us to easily share links and information for the greater good of the sport. Take a look at this as an example, or this one.

The whole idea is to keep everything fresh and contribute to developing the sport in Canada. Welcome Ontario to the Floorball blogosphere!

    Floorball Equipment 3 - Blades

Floorball sticks are superbly engineered to allow for the incredible stick-handling, ball control and shooting. A key part of this is the removable Blade of the stick. A floorball blade curve/hook can always be personalised by heating the blade in warm water.

As part of the Floorball stick the Blade ensures that Gym floors are
not damaged as they are with traditional hockey sticks. The stick
design avoids over stretching on backswings and follow through.

The blade is a key ingredient in shooting. The fastest floorball goal has been recorded at 188 kph! For something a little slower but no less impressive the blade can enable you to develop the fantastic art or airhooking. Check the video out below for some more examples!

Floorball Resources 1 -Online Floorball Forums

    Wednesday, February 7th, 2007

This is the first in a series of posts which point you and fellow floorball fans to various online and offline Floorball resources. The first one on the list is the newly redesigned and launched Floorball Forums.

This is an online resource where you can swap ideas with other floorball players across BC, Canada and the world. The guys behind the site have been good to enough to set us up with our own area which you can find here under Canadian Floorball Scene. Thanks Ben!

Check it out, it a great place to learn more about the game and ask any questions you may have.

      Real used Floorball sticks
Originally uploaded by BC Floorball Federation.

No pretty marketing shots from the manufacturers, these are real live used floorball sticks as used every week at our Monday Night Floorball sessions at the Roundhouse. These are plastic composite sticks a little under a metre in length and remarkably weighing in at less than 100 grams.

This enables amazing stick control (see here or here for an example!) and the ability to whip the ball around the floorball rink (gym in our case) at amazing speeds. Deliberately engineered for Floorball these sticks use state of the art materials for a state of the art sport!
